„In her solo exhibition at Lichthaus Arnsberg, artist Ulrike Mohr presents a new site-specific installation that engages with conceptual lines and their contrails. During her research for the project, Mohr discovered that the Lichthaus was originally conceived as a unified structure made up of two equally significant architectural elements: the glass pavilion and the surrounding garden landscape (known as the Grünhaus).
While the pavilion later became established as the Lichthaus Arnsberg, the Grünhaus remained in its shadow. With this exhibition, Mohr does not aim to restore the original balance between architecture and nature, but instead radically reconfigures the exhibition situation by presenting the entire work exclusively in the garden section of the Lichthaus.
Nature is a central theme in Mohr’s artistic practice, which explores various aspects of how we perceive and engage with it. Whether dealing with elements or laws of nature, Mohr approaches them with a readiness to question, reframe, and respond artistically. From this expanded field of action, she draws a rich palette that enables new experiments, formal and ecological research.
Conceived as an homage to Walter De Maria, the exhibition traces one aerial kilometer. Stretching back and forth across the sky above the Lichthaus, 1,000 meters of rope form a moiré-like pattern. At times dazzled by sunlight, at others set in motion by the wind, Balancing Act is also an invitation to rediscover the outdoor space.
This complex composition weaves together architecture, nature, and artistic intervention into a single organic structure. The ropes become conceptual lines and poetic threads, creating a spatial drawing in the open air—one that will continuously shift and transform with the progression of spring.“ Vlado Velkov
