Blümerant
Crossword – Temporary Installation, Gendarmenmarkt Berlin 2007
From 5 May to 17 June 2007 Berlin’s Gendarmenmarkt transformed into a walk-in crossword puzzle „blümerant“. Words formed from vegetation referenced Berlin’s habit of absorbing French expressions into everyday German speech. Arranged in 4 × 4 meter squares, the letters structured the square into a large-scale grid of intersecting words. The resulting “crossword” created conceptual links between French and German – and spatial connections between the French Cathedral and its German counterpart.
