Carbon Texture

Meshwork made from carbonized branches of a wild vine that once grew along the façade of the Museum of Natural History, Berlin
Dimensions: 4 m × 1.20 m

From the structure of growth emerges a fabric of memory: Weaving Charcoal transforms organic material – branches of a wild vine that once spread freely across the façade of Berlin’s Museum of Natural History – into a delicate meshwork of carbonized wood. Through the process of carbonization, the vine is both preserved and stripped of its former vitality. The work interlaces themes of time and transformation – growth, destruction, preservation – and reflects on the relationship between nature, architecture, and memory.
