The Drawing Hub Berlin, 2017
Performative work with the dancer Audrey Rose Burden
Exhibition curated by Jan-Philipp Frühsorge and Nicole Wendel
Ulrike Mohr created a work especially for TRAJECTORIES #2, performed by the dancer Audrey Rose Burden. Mohr uses her typical material—carbonized objects—in this case wooden shingles transformed into charcoal. The shingles undergo multiple transformations, changing their purpose, functional context, and form. Extremely fragile and shrunk by one third, they become something new: almost metallic-sounding objects sewn together into a scaly, armour-like structure. In the performative process, the charcoal as drawing material becomes a counterpart to the dancer, who puts it on like a dress, covering, protecting, and adorning her body.
