Gnadengarten
Kunsthaus Dresden, Municipal Gallery for Contemporary Art
Flora I, PARCELL 3 / Garden Project, since 2020
Weeds, wild herbs, useful plants—invasive or decorative—what criteria do people use to evaluate the plants in their environment? All the plants in a fallow garden (Parcel 3) were documented in their semi-wild state before the garden was redesigned to create a new space following different principles—the Gnadengarten. By summer 2020, the garden had transformed into a wild, flowering poppy field abundant with countless wild herbs. Over 50 different wild and cultivated plants were carefully dug up in collaboration with gardener Sabine Kroehs, and the seeds of all annual plants were harvested. Relocated not far from the original garden, all the plants are now growing together into a new heterotopia.
