Maßnahme am Normalnull Berlins
Measure at Berlin’s Sea Level
Conceived by Katinka Bock and Ulrike Mohr, 2004–2005
Maßnahme am Normalnull Berlins – Eine Rechenaufgabe mit offenem Ende: Starting from the highest and lowest publicly accessible points in Berlin (the TV Tower and U-Bahn shafts), they calculated a new vertical “zero point” — an imaginary height of 88.5 meters above the existing Normalnull. Through targeted markings on buildings and public spaces — for example, “–54.32 m” at the Palast der Republik or “–85.95 m” at the residential barge Lenz — they shift a static, seemingly objective standard onto a conscious, artistic plane. The project opens a poetic and scientific reflection on scale, space, and perception.
