Petrified Times: Energising Past Futures
Museum für Naturkunde – Leibniz Institute for Evolution and Biodiversity Research
Tuesday, August 27 – Sunday, September 1, 2024
10:00–18:00 daily
Mineral Hall, Museum für Naturkunde Berlin
From August 27 to September 1, 2024, the Mineral Hall of the Museum für Naturkunde will host a unique artistic intervention. As part of the Naturwissen network, the project group “Petrified Times: Energizing Past Futures”explores two central energy regimes of our present age: coal and uraninite (nuclear energy). Both have significantly shaped the history of post-industrial societies and the planet itself.
The project group ‘Petrified Times: Energising Past Futures’ consists of Dr. Friederike Schäfer (FU Berlin), Dr. Elisabeth Heyne (MfN), Dr. Maike Weißpflug (Federal Office for the Safety of Nuclear Waste Management – BASE). The artistic works and the intervention were developed as part of the Netzwerk Naturwissen, an initiative of the Museum für Naturkunde Berlin and its partners from Berlin and Brandenburg.
