Frommann Sculpture Garden 2025 – sukzessive
Mira Friedrich & Ulrike Mohr
curated by Hannah Chodura (Jena Art Association) and Marlen Katz (Chair of Art History, University of Jena)

„Ulrike Mohr’s site-specific charcoal artworks assimilate and transform the formal language of the artificially designed garden, reflecting on its representational aspects. At the same time, they integrate into the garden’s ecosystem by entrusting themselves to its growth processes. Over the course of the exhibition, greenery gradually pushes its way through the black terra preta bed, while ivy winds around the carbonized carpet woven by Mohr.“

The exhibition explores natural processes and cycles of growth, decay, and (trans)formation, questioning how our perception shifts when artistic, aesthetic, and ecological perspectives come into close proximity. It reflects diverse modes of human engagement with ‘nature’ and highlights the attentiveness with which this interaction happens daily. Accompanying the exhibition, students of art history and film studies at the Frommann Sculpture Garden 2025 have developed an audio collage that gathers contributions from various viewpoints and disciplines, providing background and context for the exhibition. The Frommann Sculpture Garden is a collaboration between the Jena Art Association and the Chair of Art History at Friedrich Schiller University Jena.
