Beyond Drawing, Contemporary Drawing in Berlin

The exhibition “Beyond Drawing” presents the richness of current drawing practices in Berlin: from exuberant visual storytelling to strict reduction, figuration to abstraction, documentation to site-specific exploration, illusion to its dissolution, from the microscopic to the expansive. Drawing appears as performance, in books, in space, or in animation films. Whether on paper or in dialogue with other media, drawing goes beyond itself and crosses boundaries.

The Berlin drawing scene also includes project spaces, magazines, networks, and websites dedicated to drawing and its expansion. Selected examples of these initiatives are featured in the exhibition.
